Old friends in school called me Jess, and i'm a painter. So this is my Bio,The desire to create is and always has been a passion of mine. As a young child I admired comic book artist's work, such as Frank Frazetta. The appreciation for creative expression developed, with respect for sophisticated artists like Picasso. The pencil and paper were replaced with a paint brush and canvas by 1993, and so it came to pass in 1996 Art in the Park and Barrette lnternational Group invited me to participate. Invitation and Independent exhibits at Babatto. Milk Pail, Intimate Groove, Art for All, Mission Gallery Land Mark Arts, and David Leonardis Gallery encouraged my work to evolve throughout the years. As a result, painting became a love affair that could not be denied.
lnterest and Admiration for the ingenious artists before me, led my work to be entirely in Abstract form, Rapidly paintings were selling via exhibits, performance art, commercial work, or even donations to various charities. But somehow, ffiV Inner Voice felt unheard, almost stifled.
Until one dream in 2004 changed my perception, deep to the core, of whom I am as an artist. The Dream: The morning sun shined through this dark staircase, each step creaked as I approached the apartment door. (knock-knock) feet shuffled and the door opened to this little old man welcoming me in. The white walls adorned with drawings and paintings on sheets of paper held up only by tape. And the table, in the center of the room, completely covered with like pictures, colored pencils, brushes, and paints. Within in the scattered pages the ragged man showed this drawing that was of a man in a wheelchair, with a line drawn through (one side dark and another side light) as an expression of being paralyzed. And he looked up to me, deep into my eyes, saying "You must be true to Yourself as an Artist." "For I am Pablo Picasso and you are Adrian Vazquez." Awakening to that dream transformed my work into a geometric form of abstract with Aztec undertones. Modern yet Ancient, where my inspiration and my ancestral blood collide. Here and now in 2011 my roots are more prevalent than ever.
